Experimental Kiln-forming with Recycled Glass

Morgan Gilbreath is a glass and mixed-media artist whose process-driven work investigates the intersections between religion, history, and labor. She holds a BFA in Glass and a BA in Art History from Tyler School of Art (Temple University) in Philadelphia. She’s completed residencies at the Creative Glass Center of America (Wheaton Arts), Pilchuck Glass School, and the University of Texas Arlington. Exhibiting nationally and internationally, her work is in the permanent collection at the Museum of American Glass (Millville, NJ) and the Aldo Bellini Glass Collection at Castello Sforzesco (Milan, Italy). Morgan lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA
What To Expect
Join visiting artist Morgan Gilbreath for an immersive kiln-formed glass workshop. Learn how to embrace the unique working properties of found, recycled, and manufactured glass. In this experimental class, you’ll be introduced to the creative possibilities of repurposed glass in the kiln and coldshop. Guided by demonstrations and technical lectures, we will complete a fast-paced series of kiln tests and small sculptures utilizing various types of found and collected glass.
The techniques taught in this class will allow you to develop your own glass practice, using the various glass you encounter in the world, making it an inspiring opportunity for artists of all levels to expand their creative skill set.
Botanical Sun Catcher Workshop
Gather your friends and unleash your creativity as you design a unique sun catcher with a floral or botanical theme! In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of glass design and fusing, including how to cut glass in straight lines and freehand, add vibrant colors and patterns using frit and stringers, and refine edges with a wet sander and lap wheel.
